The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) is welcoming today\u2019s announcement from the Attorney General that mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) will be imposed on real estate practitioners in Queensland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the law currently stands, real estate practitioners are required to undertake initial educational training, however there are no ongoing educational and training requirements despite the increasingly complex legal and regulatory landscape they operate in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said as a strong advocate for the establishment of an annual CPD regime for a decade, it was momentous for the REIQ to see it come to fruition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs the peak body for real estate professionals, the REIQ are big believers in the critical importance of ongoing education to ensure professionals keep up with complex and ever-changing legislation and lift the professional standards,\u201d Ms Mercorella said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen you consider the significant responsibilities bestowed on real estate professionals, including selling what\u2019s often someone\u2019s most valuable asset and managing trust accounts, it\u2019s crucial that ongoing training requirements are imposed for consumer protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis not only aligns with the expectations of the community but also with those of real estate professionals who are committed to delivering best practice standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFollowing a decade of advocacy from the REIQ, it\u2019s momentous to see the introduction of mandatory CPD, and we congratulate the Miles Government on delivering on this commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen mandating CPD, it\u2019s important that there\u2019s flexibility and agility in the required training to ensure its relevant, and so we look forward to helping to shape the content delivered through the Advisory Panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur members already reflect the REIQ\u2019s commitment to lifelong learning being required to complete least 100 CPD points annually, in order to maintain membership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
