{"id":4773,"date":"2025-04-01T19:00:45","date_gmt":"2025-04-01T09:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theonsitemanager.com.au\/news\/?p=4773"},"modified":"2025-04-01T19:00:46","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T09:00:46","slug":"rate-cut-hopes-mounting-for-may-says-reiq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theonsitemanager.com.au\/news\/rate-cut-hopes-mounting-for-may-says-reiq\/","title":{"rendered":"Rate cut hopes mounting for May, says REIQ"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) has acknowledged today\u2019s decision by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) to keep the cash rate on hold at 4.1% in April, pending the release of the comprehensive March quarter CPI inflation data on 30 April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said it was widely expected that the RBA would hold in April, and it would have been a surprise if it had cut the cash rate<a href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#m_-2487964047013709224__ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>, however now hopes were mounting for May\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter holding in April to gain more confidence inflation is under control, many home buying hopefuls and mortgage holders will be hoping the RBA will consider an additional cut to the cash rate in May,\u201d Ms Mercorella said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe latest monthly inflation data confirms that inflation is back in the RBA\u2019s target band<a href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#m_-2487964047013709224__ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a>, which is encouraging news for consumers and businesses alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHouseholds would welcome additional relief after suffering a significant fall in real disposable income over the last two years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere have been signs of sluggishness in the private sector economy<a href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#m_-2487964047013709224__ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>, and a rate cut would help improve the outlook for businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAdditional rate cuts are required to lift consumer confidence and borrowing capacity.
